here’s a little post on my new multi-chaptered fic, which involves Deaf culture very heavily. obviously i have to be aware of the context i’m writing in for this, so here goes!

  • first off - i’m a Hearing person.
  • i had hearing issues as a kid but recovered. it was temporary hearing loss over a matter of months from a bilateral ear infection. (i had the worst balance issues omfg)
  • (it also might be deteriorating again but that’s a whole other Thing)
  • i have Deaf extended family. one of my relatives taught in a Deaf school for many years, which is super cool.
  • i currently take BSL classes at level 102

i understand that there might be stuff in here - as a Hearing person, as a BSL signer, or otherwise - that i might get wrong. if you know better, feel free to correct me! i’m fascinated from linguistic, cultural, and historical POVs with sign.
